The AI x Green CIVIC Tech Accelerator
A joint initative by
AI can support civil society organizations deepen their impact and strengthen their efficiency. A responsible adoption of AI, one that considers its effects on people and the planet, lays the foundation for equitable and sustainable AI upskilling.
Designed for civil society organizations and social innovators, and co-financed by Climate Collective and CIVIC, this accelerator program builds AI literacy and unlocks responsible AI use in civic organizations focused on climate, nature and biodiversity.
About the Accelerator
The AI x Green CIVIC Tech Accelerator’s Summer 2025 cohort equipped 20 nature and climate focused nonprofits and social innovators from 12 countries, with the necessary AI literacy skills, advancing their efforts to protect biodiversity and mitigate climate change.
This 6-week program (June - August ‘25) surfaced real-world use cases for AI across the climate, nature and biodiversity sectors; connected frontline organizations to global expertise and networks; and helped participants build the confidence to leverage the rapidly expanding ecosystem of AI tools - while navigating ethics, environmental footprint and data safety.
Accelerator Activities
Live Discovery Sessions hosted by an AI expert Samhir Vasdev, including:
- Basic skills building and context setting (AI definitions, hype vs reality, LLMs, prompting, chatbots vs agents)
- Organizational specific AI applications (research, communications, and resource mobilization).
Weekly Expert Guest Speakers, building participants’ networks and knowledge and exploring AI’s impact on climate, Frugal AI tactics, ‘how to build a successful AI-tool’, and automations.
A facilitated WhatsApp community for ongoing conversation, cohort building, and knowledge sharing.
A coordinated "LinkedIn flashmob" to help participants demonstrate their AI qualifications and build community through the Accelerator.
One-on-ones with AI experts to discuss strategy, homework, and to go deeper with specific tools and discussions.
Guided development of an AI Case Study specific to each organization’s work.
Follow-on opportunities to join events and share knowledge as part of Climate Collective’s global network.
